Analysis Summary
Google has issued a warning, stating that a zero-day exploit has been used to target a vulnerability in the Pixel Firmware. The vulnerability affects privilege escalation and has been identified as highly severe, tracked as CVE-2024-32896.
The company mentioned that there are signs that CVE-2024-32896 may be subject to limited, targeted exploitation, but it did not disclose any further information on the types of attacks that are taking advantage of it. Fifty security flaws are addressed in the June 2024 security update, five of which are related to different Qualcomm chipset components.
Several noteworthy vulnerabilities that were addressed included a denial-of-service (DoS) attack that affected Modem and many information disclosure weaknesses that affected Trusty, GSM Systems, and ACPM. The compatible Pixel devices, including the Pixel 5a with 5G, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, and Pixel Fold, can now download the upgrades.
Google fixed two security issues (CVE-2024-29745 and CVE-2024-29748) in the bootloader and firmware components earlier in April. These flaws were used by forensic businesses as weapons to steal confidential information. A memory-related vulnerability (CVE-2024-4610) in the Bifrost and Valhall GPU kernel drivers was then made known to users by Arm last week, and it has been actively exploited.
