Analysis Summary
Anonymous, a hacktivist and activist collective, has declared their support for Ukraine in this ongoing cyber war. In doing so, they have disabled Russian websites such as http://kremlin.ru/ and other government portals. In addition to this, the group also took down RT News, and leaked 200GB of emails between Belarusian weapons maker Tetraedr and Russia. The collective also hacked Russian TV channels, played the Ukrainian national anthem on them, and also showed uncensored news of what was happening in Ukraine.
Recently, Anonymous has leaked data stolen from the Russian pipeline company “Transneft.” The Omega company was hacked by Anonymous and it is the in-house R&D unit of Transneft. Thus, the Russia-Based oil giant was also affected. This is a critical data breach because Transneft is the largest oil pipeline company in the world and 79 Gb of its emails have been released. These emails also contain employee credentials, asset information, technical configurations of the equipments, and shipment information on the product. Anonymous has dedicated the leak to Hillary Clinton.
“People who love freedom, and understand that our way of life depends on supporting those who believe in freedom as well, could be engaged in cyber support of those in the streets in Russia,” Clinton said.
