Analysis Summary
Machete is a suspected Spanish-speaking cyber-espionage gang that has been operating since 2010. Its operations have primarily been concentrated in Latin America with a particular emphasis on Venezuela however, it has also target United States, Europe, Russia, and some parts of Asia. The primarily targets of Machete is high-profile organizations, including government agencies, intelligence services, military units, telecommunications and power firms. According to researchers, Machete’s toolkit is capable of stealing documents from the office suite and also those developed with geographic information systems (GIS) software.
